Ogden Cami and Simplicity 8483

I've been wanting to make this Simplicity pattern for the longest time, but after all that work the top was a wadder! It looked like a shelf by the yoke, just a mess!
(Don't you hate it when the store puts permanent large stickers on your expensive patterns?)

Luckily, for once I had enough fabric left over to make a new bodice, Ogden Cami to the rescue.
I had never made this before, so I was taking another risk. I had a gaping armhole (commonplace for me) and I just made some gathers in that area on the fabric and on the lining. It doesn't seem to be noticeable, yeah!

The straps have no length to them, but there again, normal for me. This would be a good travel dress, lightweight and not too wrinkly.

 The fabric is from Mood, anything with a horse print is good.

Advance 9718

 I was going to wear this today. I put it on and it did fit, but it just looked sad and frumpy, and the buttons were in the wrong place too! When I said it fit, it was just okay, once again the shoulders were too wide and I needed to pinch out some size in the armhole by the bust.

Normally I do have a good understanding when it comes to matching the fabric to the design style of the dress. This was way off from the beginning. The fabric was a scuba knit from JoAnn (love the fabric, wish they still had it) and the pattern should have been sewn in a stable cotton or linen fabric. This will be sent to the thrift store in hopes that it might work for someone else.

Wadder: BurdaStyle 6438

 This was an unexpected wadder. I had made the adjustment for larger upper arms to no avail. When I tried it on it was so tight in the arms and upper chest I couldn't move. The only way to fix this would to be to rip off the sleeves and add different ones. We shall see, but I think it's goodbye.

Butterick 6052

 This is a pattern that I've been gazing longingly at for so many years and then when I finally made it, it was such a disappointment, kinda like a bad date.

 How do I begin? The shoulders were way too wide. I had to rip them out and re-cut the shoulders and the sleeve. Look at all the wrinkles by the bustline. Yikes!

 There is a front zipper, but had to rip that out and start over on that too! I like the fabric and the color, but that's about it. I'll probably wear it one more time and donate it.

Sewing for thrift stores

This is Vogue 9104. I specifically chose this pattern because after all the past sewing bombs, I wanted a sure thing that would fit. Well...it doesn't! There are big gaps in the armholes, toward the neck band. The neck band was not comfortable and overall the dress just looks baggy.

The fabric is so cute and I used one of my scarves for the back of the neckband. The band on the bottom is an embroidered linen. What a waste!

I was thinking I need to just sew a pattern I've used before, but nothing is sparking my interest. Hopefully there's a tall thin person out there needing a bright colorful dress.

This pattern is now in the donation bag with the dress.

Vogue 9106

 Sometimes do you just not enjoy sewing very much? The last three things I've made have had fitting issues and have taken a long time to sew. I was so excited for this vintage pattern and I loved the fabric to go with this (Pottery Barn Kids sheets). I made my normal size, but the top wouldn't close the sleeves were way too tight and where the gathers ended it was like arrows pointing to your butt and the gathers for the bust did not go below the bust. OMG! Took out the back darts, opened up the sleeves by cutting a tear drop shape and adding self bias for ties. So it does fit now, but I still don't love it. I'm just going to hang on to it until next summer and then make a decision on what to do with it. Two thumbs down!

Unintentional Frankenpattern

I started off with a Koos pattern Vogue 1301. This had been cut out and waiting for sewing over the long winter, so I thought I better get on it since winter is once again lurking. Let me say this is the worst pattern ever! The armholes are around your waist and the serging on the front does not look good. It just looks like an ugly nightgown.

Since I had just completed Butterick 5985 and since I had fabric that matched in the stash I decided to move forward.

I cut off the top and used it as an over skirt, It's wearable but not my favorite. It took a long time to sew and I don't think the fabric I used for the main portion of the dress will wear well, it was pilling as I was sewing it.

At least I'm smiling.
